This time the lecture for high school students was given by Prof. Artur Ludwin, Head of the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Center for Women's and Newborn Health MUW. He spoke about how to become a virtuoso of the “keyhole” gynecological surgery.
A novel system to "vacuum" thrombus and tumors from veins used for the first time at UCC MUW
Specialists from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology UCC MUW, in cooperation with the team from the Department of Heart, Thoracic and Transplant Surgery UCC MUW, performed the procedure on April 15 using the innovative AngioVac system. The patient was a 38-year-old patient with a primary diagnosis of liver echinococcal cyst, complicated by a septic condition.
Warsaw International Medical Congress 2024 – discussions of young scientists about biomedicine
These were three intense days filled with lectures, workshops and, above all, interesting and inspiring scientific presentations by students and postgraduates from all over the world. It is their active participation and willingness to share their achievements in various fields of biomedicine that are the most important point of the Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists – an international event that has been organized at our university for 27 years.
“Heart in a Box” – a new era in Polish transplantology
The organ care system for heart (OCS Heart) was used for the first time in the history of Polish heart transplantology to transport an organ from the donor to the recipient on March 4, 2024, by the Clinic of Heart, Thorax and Transplant Surgery of the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw headed by Prof. Mariusz Kuśmierczyk. The use of this innovative equipment ensures that the heart is transported in “comfortable” conditions – beating, nourished and protected against the necrotic environment outside the human body.
Meeting with the Minister of Health of Ukraine
Mr. Viktor Liashka, Minister of Health of Ukraine, visited Warsaw on March 28. He met with Prof. Robert Gałązkowski, Vice-Dean for Dietetics, Medical Rescue and Public Health of the Medical University of Warsaw, Chair of the Medical University of Warsaw’s Team for Cooperation with Ukraine. They discussed cooperation between the Medical University of Warsaw and Ukrainian medical universities.
Opening of the Palliative Medicine Clinic at Baby Jesus Clinical Hospital at the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw
This is the first clinic of its kind in Warsaw. It was officially opened on April 4. “The corridors of our clinic is still empty today. However, I dream that it will be full of students who, as part of volunteering, will want to spend at least an hour a week at the patient’s bedside and here they will become infected with medicine,” said Tomasz Dzierżanowski, the founder and head of the new unit, during the inauguration ceremony.
Health Day at the Faculty of Health Sciences
This was a major event dedicated to health promotion and prevention. It was organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences on the occasion of the upcoming World Health Day. Students from five public high schools and senior citizens were invited to attend - a total of more than 400 people. Guests first listened to interesting lectures by experts, and then sought advice and information from representatives of student scientific circles.
In 10 hours - 2 pancreas transplants - a "small record" at the Department of General and Transplantation Surgery UCC MUW at Lindleya Street.
Saturday, March 23 was an exceptional day at the Department of General and Transplantation Surgery UCC MUW. On a single day, in less than 10 hours, two pancreas transplants were performed there (including one - simultaneous with a kidney transplant). The patients are feeling better and better, and although both are still in the hospital, they will be discharged home in the next few days.

Today, March 27, 2024, at the U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski’s residence, Rector Professor Zbigniew Gaciong attended another cyclical meeting on the issue of youth mental health.
